Yaani

I selected the word yaani (meaning elephant) because we went to Ponducherry which is a French city about 2 hours south and east and here in this place they have an elephant that does blessings in a Temple.  The sad thing was we missed this elephant while we were there because it went on its break durring the times we were there.  On the way we made a stop off at Auroville.

Auroville is a little place in Ponducherry that is a " univeral tow where men and women of all countries are able to live in peace and progressive harmony above all creeds, all politics and all nationalities.  The purpose of Auroville is to realise human unity. "

Basically we went there to see the giant gold golf ball....  which is NOT a tourist attraction.

When we got there we passed the tourist office and went straight on to the golden ball.  We walked down this lovely path and then got to a road with a guard that made us walk all the way back for a FREE ticket to walk across the road.  Yes you read that right, a free ticket and we had to walk all the way back.

Then after we left there- kinda running cause it was a little on the weird side.... we went into Ponducherry.

Our meeting place was on the beach at the giant Gandhi

Because we got here a little later we missed the elephant blessing so we went straight to dinner.  And when I say straight I mean we walked around the city looking for Don Geovanis' Italian Restaurant that we heard about.  We basically walked around it and by it for about 30 min before we finally found it.  But when we got there it was amazing.  The owner is from Italy and his name is Max.  He has lived in India for the past 30 years and he is amazing.   At one point he even sat down and shared my lunch with me. First things first  though- beverages.  By the end I think I had three beverages.  The best was the house lemonade that you make yourself with soda water, lemon juice and simple syrup.

This was Julie's amazing dish.  They tasted like perogies with a alfredo sauce.

Beach by the Gandhi statue.

Because this was a French town it was a treat to have some pastries.  Julie had some cookies and I had a chocolate croissant in honor of my Mamma.
